What does ASAM Level 2.5 mean?
Treatment programs are described using levels from the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Here is what that means in plain language.
ASAM Level 2.5 is partial hospitalization. It is a structured, clinically supervised treatment program that you attend during the day and then return home from. It offers considerably more support and clinical contact each week than standard outpatient care, without an overnight stay.
In practice, that means taking part in regular programming with a clinical team while continuing to live at home, so treatment fits alongside the rest of your life rather than replacing it. What your own experience looks like is based on your individual needs and the treatment plan you build with your team.
The appropriate level of care is determined through an assessment with our clinical team, not by choosing from a list. If ASAM 2.5 turns out not to be the right fit, we will talk with you about what may be.
Care that sees the person, not just the diagnosis.
Person-centered care

Plain-language answers to what people ask us most often.
What is ASAM Level 2.5?
ASAM Level 2.5 is a level of care defined by the American Society of Addiction Medicine, which describes treatment programs by how much structure and clinical support they provide. Level 2.5 is partial hospitalization: structured, clinically supervised treatment you attend during the day and return home from.
What is Partial Hospitalization (PHP)?
Partial hospitalization is the plain-English name for ASAM Level 2.5. You take part in structured programming with a clinical team during the day, then go home afterward. It offers considerably more support than standard outpatient care, without an overnight stay.
What is the difference between PHP and IOP?
Both are outpatient levels of care, meaning you continue to live at home. Partial hospitalization (ASAM 2.5) provides more structure and more clinical contact each week than intensive outpatient (ASAM 2.1). Which one is appropriate is determined through an assessment with a clinical team, not by choosing from a list.
What is ASAM Level 2.1?
ASAM Level 2.1 is intensive outpatient treatment, a lower-intensity structured option than partial hospitalization. Blissful Minds does not currently offer this level of care.
Does Blissful Minds serve children and adolescents? Does it serve adults?
Both. Blissful Minds provides ASAM Level 2.5 Partial Hospitalization Services for children and adolescents and for adults, with programming shaped around each group.
Is treatment available virtually?
Services are delivered in person and virtually as necessary, based on what is clinically appropriate for each person.
Is Blissful Minds licensed?
Yes. Blissful Minds holds current, active Virginia DBHDS licensure for ASAM Level 2.5 services for both children and adults.
